Raiders coach Ricky Stuart has signed a contract extension to remain head coach at the club through to the end of the 2020 season.

Stuart first joined the Green Machine as head coach in 2014, with 2016 the club's most successful season under his tutelage with the club finishing second in the regular season and going down in the preliminary finals to the Storm.

"When I first arrived at the club I mentioned that it was a privilege to have the opportunity to coach the Raiders and I feel still that today,” Stuart said via a club statement.

"I’m encouraged by the commitment and the drive for success we have in the club and we’ll continue to work hard to achieve the high standards we set for our club.

"The club has a lot of stability at the moment which is very important and I’m confident we can continue to work through re-signing a number of players into the future."

Raiders chairman Dr Allan Hawke was confident Stuart's commitment to the Canberra side adds another level of stability to a club going places in the Telstra Premiership.

"Ricky has developed a wonderful culture in the club since arriving as head coach and has helped the team become a more consistent and competitive team.

"Re-signing Ricky as head coach gives us stability and will also assist in the continuation of re-signing our playing group into the future which we’ve already commenced."

Stuart's association with the club stretches back far further than his time as head coach, having made his first-grade debut as a player with Canberra in 1988, going on to win three premierships in the early '90s.
