Sydney Roosters NYC team members Bernard Lewis and Zane Blake recently volunteered at the Rugby League Clinic at PCYC Daceyville.

Jean Ford, PCYC Eastern Suburbs Club Manager, was certainly impressed with their work ethic, "Bernie and Zane were magnificent and the kids thoroughly enjoyed the day".

Bernie and Zane are both currently undertaking a Certificate IV in Youth Work at TAFE Ultimo.

This course develops their skills in community development, communication, empowerment of young people, cultural diversity, and crisis management.

Both have enjoyed the interactive course facilitation and the opportunity to work with the other students in the class and they definitely enjoyed putting into practice what they have learnt in class.

PCYC Daceyville has been a strong supporter of the Sydney Roosters in preparing our athletes for on and off-field success.

Last year, Brendan Frei, a member of the Sydney Roosters premiership winning NYC team, worked in a part-time Fitness Assistant role at the club.

PCYC Daceyville is also used as a training venue for our NYC squad and provides other voluntary work opportunities for our squads in youth work and community services.

It is an NRL requirement for all NYC players to work and / or study to be eligible to play.

NRL Wellbeing and Education Team work in partnership with the RLPA to design programs to support further career engagement for all squads from Under 16s to NRL level.

Sydney Roosters employ a Career Coach, Narelle Hess, who works with the athletes to explore their career interests and support them identify work, study and career opportunities that best support their development.

The Sydney Roosters are committed to best supporting our athletes to achieve success in all aspects of their life.

This year's NYC squad is testament to the variety of career opportunities that our athletes pursue: 10 x apprenticeships/traineeships, 7 x university, 5 x Cert IV/Diploma courses, and 10 x working.

We are fortunate to have a range of employers and education providers that help support our athletes achieve success on and off-field with flexible and professional career opportunities.
